Meet
Gary Kendrick
Gary Kendrick has been a resident of East County for 46 years and El
Cajon for almost 14 years. He graduated from Santana High School in 1972. He attended
Grossmont College and graduated from San Diego State University. He earned a
Bachelors degree in Business Management and a Masters degree in Real Estate.
He has been a Real Estate Appraiser for 19 years.
Garys path into politics began at the neighborhood level. In July 1990 his neighbors
elected him to the Fletcher Terrace Association Board of Directors. He gained valuable
experience and helped save his neighbors thousands of dollars when the City widened West
Main Street. Next, he led the fight to slow traffic in his neighborhood.
Gary Kendrick looked beyond his own neighborhood. He researched and developed two new
citywide ordinances to enhance the well being of our children and playground safety. He
learned how difficult it can be for the average citizen to implement change at the City
level. He decided to become involved in improving attitudes toward and access for everyday
people at City Hall.
Gary was elected to the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College Governing Board in 1998 and
served two terms as president of that board. He knows how to bring our tax dollars back
home. During his 5 years on the College Board, Grossmont College received approval for
more state construction money than the previous 25 years combined, over 17 million dollars
on one project alone.
Gary served more than four years on the El Cajon Planning Commission, two years as
Chairman. During that time, he proved his dedication to finding solutions that work for
both sides of an issue. Garys negotiating skills effectively prevailed in almost
100% of the cases brought before the Commission. Businessmen, bureaucrats and homeowners
were able to collaborate on successful projects under his leadership.
Gary was elected to the El Cajon City Council in March 2002. After only 3 months, the
other City Councilmembers voted for him to serve as Mayor Pro Tem! Gary Kendricks
commitment to peaceful solutions has continued on the City Council. He believes in
treating everyone fairly and respectfully, while maximizing resources and efficiency. The
East County Californian called him the "Council's Chief Peacemaker"! (click here to read the entire article)
In addition to his Real Estate expertise and civic leadership, Gary teaches Business
classes at Southwestern College and Continuing Education classes for accounting and legal
professionals.
You may contact Gary at home by calling 442-6563 for more information. Gary has open
office hours at City Hall every Tuesday from 8:30 to 11:30 am. Call City Hall at 441-1776
to talk to Gary there.
